Peak Season Delays
Certain times of year are brutal for visa processing:
- July–August: Summer program rush. Appointment slots disappear 3–4 weeks ahead. Processing times can stretch to 5–6 days.
- December–January: Winter program + holiday backlog. Centers close for Chinese New Year (usually 1–2 weeks in January/February).
- September–October: Fall semester rush. University students flood the system.
My advice
Apply during off-peak months (March–May, October–November) if you have flexibility. Appointment slots are easier to get, and staff are less frazzled.
